A doodler is a person who loves to create.
Are you a crafter, a maker, a creative thinker?
Yes? Then you’re a doodler! Just like me.
We’re kindred spirits! Let’s doodle together!
Kari Doodle has been my family nickname since I was small enough to tap dance on the coffee table. And since I grew up to be an artist and writer (aka, a doodler), that moniker felt right at home on my blog too.
Here’s what we’ll do in my studio:
- Create cool stuff we’re proud to give to others or display in our homes
- Cultivate moments of peace and creativity in the midst our messy lives
- Explore new techniques and find more ways to use supplies we already own
- Discover inspiration and fresh approaches from other designers, cultures, and genres
- Investigate what new supplies, technology, and techniques are worth investing our time and money
- Increase our artistic confidence and maker satisfaction as we grow our design skills
- Celebrate our unique and zealous doodler style
A design geek has an intense love for all things design.
Have you downloaded a hundred fonts, pinned reams of eye candy to your Pinterest boards, and collected Sanrio as a kid? #hellokitty
If so, you can admit it. Like me, you might be a little bit design geeky.
We’ve so much in common!
I’m a lifelong design junkie. Given the chance, I’d geek out with you for hours about art, designers, and making stuff. My ideal day might include a field trip to an art museum, painting galaxy cards with my kids, or deep-diving into the history of tartan.
My love for design and doodling has crafted my life’s purpose.
I earned a degree in Doodler Design Geek from the University of North Texas. That means I did all the design curriculum along with lots and lots of art history.
Okay, technically I have a BFA in Art History. Same difference. 😉
I’ve been in and out of the craft industry since I started freelancing for book and magazine publications back in 2001. Over the years I have:
- had hundreds of artworks and articles published
- worked as craft editor for Memory Makers magazine
- wrote a best-selling book, The Scrapbook Designer’s Workbook
- taught paper-crafting classes around the country
After a hiatus from the craft biz while my kids were little, I’m thrilled to be back in action and excited to connect with fellow doodlers just like you.
Join me for doodling around, dabbling in design, and making awesome projects — with each of us doodling in our quirky way that brings us joy, feeds our spirit, and dials into our true creative self.
Praise for Kari Hansen and The Scrapbook Designer’s Workbook:
“[The Scrapbook Designer’s Workbook] is a reference book I’ll pick up again, and again, and again. I know I’ll be returning to it to try to figure out why I don’t like a layout I’ve just designed, and what I need to do to turn it into one I like. And I hope to see more from Ms. Hansen. She’s a breath of fresh air in an industry that relies very heavily on trends.”
— Amazon reviewer Sharon D. Parrett
“[The Scrapbook Designer’s Workbook] is a comprehensive tutorial in scrapbook design. Very easy to read and understand. It gives very specific and clear examples of each topic. Could actually be helpful to anyone doing a project involving elements of design. A fantastic reference book. One of the best I’ve seen !!!!!
